Held at the intersection of 900 South and 900 East in Salt Lake City, the 9th and 9th Street Festival has become annual event where everyone from the city converges to enjoy food, fun and music.
This years event will be held all day on September 17th, 2011 and promises to be better than ever with an amazing line-up of performers and an eclectic mix of local artists, purveyors of fine foods and delights for both children and adults!
Sponsored by the East Liberty Community Council, the 9th and 9th Street Festival was conceived as a way to bring neighbors together in what has quickly become one of the city’s most unique, eclectic and desirable neighborhoods. This is a celebration of a neighborhood put on by neighbors. Its free, its fun, bring the dog, the kids, the stroller and come on down to join the fun. We invite musicians, dancers, artists and crafters to make the day.

Salt Lake City native, Michael Wine, breaks free from the ordinary with his unique and compelling use of varied musical genres. A smorgasbord of acoustic guitar, electronic drums, 80′s synthesizer and heavy metal takes the listener on a roller-coaster ride of passion, purpose, reflection and optimism, three years in the making. There’s something for everyone here, whether your comfort zone is pop, rock, heavy metal or easy listening. Michael has taken his own advice in creating this fresh and fascinating collection — not for money, not for pride or fame, but to fulfill what he feels is his purpose in this life, to bring people together through an amazing shared musical experience. What started out as physical therapy for a snowboarding wrist fracture evolved into the captivating and extremely satisfying sound of fingers on frets and soul wide open. The 9th and 9th Street Festival is proud to once again host the Wasatch Coaching Acadamy as our opening act! The Wasatch Coaching Academy not only gives students the opportunity to learn to play music, but they also give them the opportunity to perform before live audiences.
For many years, I have believed that young musicians in training need a place to get the coaching and experience needed to be effective combo and ensemble member… to explore, play and learn to love many kinds of music, and if they desire become prepared for a great musical experience in college, and as a future professional musician. The Wasatch Music Coaching Academy provides a complete opportunity for aspiring musicians to obtain the enjoyment and fulfillment they desire from their talents in music. With combo and ensemble coaching, superior music instruction, and a variety of programs, the student will develop the confidence and skills necessary to compete successfully in college music programs, create various levels of success in the music industry, or simply develop a sense of personal satisfaction with music. Through dedication, loyalty, and hard work on behalf of both the coaching team and the students, this vision becomes a reality.

Gross National Product, comprised of four/five excellent Utah musicians, has been performing around Salt Lake City for 25 years now. The band has gone through many members, and todays group consists of three of the original musicians. Once upon a time, while playing at Juniors Tavern in 1983, we were asked to play ’Satin Doll’. We grudgingly complied, but Ralph the guitarist was angry. He turned his amp to eleven, and screamed through the tune. We all followed suit. Thus was born GNP. We play our original tunes without abandon, bordering often on avant garde, yet tight melodies and segues keep the band sounding tight and interesting. We are loud, then soft, moody, then rockin’, melodic, then outside. And we always play the songs differently. Improvisation is very important to us.
